As part of the Forest Preserve’s annual efforts to manage high quality natural areas and improve wildlife habitat, and continue maintenance of recently restored natural areas, staff seeks contractual services to complete invasive species control actions.  Selective herbicide treatments in tandem with prescribed burn management are effective at controlling invasive species across large natural areas.  Although invasive species control contracts were awarded for many preserves during the past winter, bidding of a contract for Goodenow Grove and Raccoon Grove Nature Preserves was strategically delayed until after the spring burn season was completed.

Based on the work this past spring, staff has prioritized over 430 acres for treatment of invasive species and burn management during the fall 2017 – spring 2018 season. Much of this area is at a critical point for invasive species control to maintain habitat for rare and endangered species which are present on the site. The project area also includes a portion Goodenow Grove that was impacted by ComEd utility maintenance activities and is being restored using funds provided by ComEd.
